  RAISING STANDARDS ACROSS THE CURRICULUM

                   Department : Maths/English

                   Title: Double Club

Text Box: IMPACT
The difference it has made:
· Attainment: The measurable impact has been evident most prominently in the performance indicators based on intial and end of programme testing. All pupils targeted were at level 3 (either a,b, or c). 7 pupils have moved up to a level 4 in Maths and 8 to a level 4 in English, all others (apart from 1 pupil who withdrew from the course) have improved by at least 1/3 level e.g. 3b to 3a.
· Attendance: 71% of the group have increased their attendance at school ranging from 1% -11% improvement. 2 pupils remained the same, 2 pupils attendance has actually decreased although their attendance at the 'Double Club' sessions has increased, demonstrating the effectiveness of the programme.

MEETING THE CHALLENGE

What we did:

· Identified the pupils based on levels of attainment in Y7.

· Informed parents and invited them into school for a briefing session with the Director of Specialism and the Playing for Success Manager.

· Wrote, devised and adapted the curriculum materials into a scheme of work and lesson plans based solely in a football format.

· Targeted delivery for the start of September.

· Established baseline data and levels using KS3 tests (adapted into a Middlesbrough F.C. format).

· Delivered the lessons using King's Manor staff, 3 x per week on literacy/numeracy with each followed up immediately by an extra sports session.  The sports coach was deployed by Middlesbrough

· F.C. to deliver the sports sessions, each session would utilise elements learned from the lesson e.g. use of vocabulary, number patterns etc

· Used the Director of Specialism and the Playing for Success Manager to monitor and evaluate sessions.

· Established end of course assessment to measure progress made.

· Throughout the programme Middlesbrough. F.C have rewarded the pupils with official merchandise, match day tickets and full kit to participate in their additional sports lessons.
